I’ve learned this through years and tens of thousands of dollars – I’m going to teach it to you in minutes…
Rule #1 of Social media is that it’s the attention economy. All you need to do is figure out what is truly interesting about you and hone in on that in your content. I guarantee there is something interesting and attention grabbing about you and what you do – all you have to do is figure out what your audience wants to see from you.
How do you do that?
Let’s keep it simple, there are about 4 categories of interest that grab viewers’ attention on Social media:
Entertaining – think funny, wow-inducing or jaw-dropping content that makes the viewer rewatch over and over again.
Educational – this is the value add, do you know a lot of sh*t about your niche then use that. Keep it simple though, the key to educational content is keeping it easily digestible. People don’t often want an essay when scrolling on social media. You want to provide value to people but the rule of thumb is to keep the writing at a 5th-grade level or below. People want to learn but they don’t want to think too hard to do it.
Aspirational- Ya the FEI level jumping videos where riders look super cool – this is where that content falls. When you’re creating aspirational content you are essentially giving your audience a window into a world they want to be a part of. The hard part about this content is you have to be a part of that world already – so if you’re not then default to the other 3 styles of content until you are.
Story Telling – This is arguably the strongest type of content because if you do it right, your audience is hooked, engaged, and will not only become a new follower but, also a new fan. Not to get too into human psychology but bear with me. Since TikTok entered the social media scene we saw a MASSIVE spike in short-form content often only 7 to 30 seconds long. That’s what viewers wanted, short entertaining videos. But as it always goes, the trend is shifting and we’re swinging back to long-form content. Viewers got scroll fatigue and are now turning back to longer storytelling content as what they’re choosing to watch. That’s why longer Storytelling-style content is performing extremely well right now. It’s also some of the strongest content to build a real relationship and community with your audience.
